My landline phone showed an overseas private number was calling so I let it go through to the answering machine, expecting it to be a call centre and they would hang up.

But, no a computer generated, american accented voice claiming to be Officer John Smith from ASIO tax crime division, asked me to call back on this number. "He" stated that this call was very time sensitive and that as soon as I get this message, I should IMMEDIATELY stop my work and call back. If I or my lawyer did not call 'John Smith" could only wish me good luck as a serious situation unfolded around me.

This was a an intentionally scary sounding message which someone more trusting than me might well have been duped by. Don't fall for it. They are trying to get your money!
