The Nature of the Scam
Reports indicate that those who receive calls from 02 6045 9068 / 0260459068 are subjected to automated messages warning them of severe legal consequences regarding alleged tax evasion. The messages typically suggest that there is a warrant for arrest or that the recipient's home is under surveillance. In several instances, users have described the callers as rude and intimidating, heightening the sense of fear and urgency in response to these alarming threats.
Why It's a Scam
The Australian Tax Office (ATO) does not operate in this manner. Legitimate communications from the ATO are conducted via formal letters, not threatening phone calls or automated messages. Several reviews indicate that recipients of these calls have consulted their accountants or conducted online searches that confirmed the nature of the call as fraudulent. Here are some clear indicators of the scam:
- Automated Messaging: The use of robotic voices suggests a scam, as no official agency will employ such communication methods for serious legal matters.
- Intimidating Language: The threatening nature of the messages, including claims of arrest warrants and ongoing surveillance, is a classic tactic of fraudsters.
- No Personal Engagement: Legitimate ATO representatives would have communication channels that allow for personal interaction and verification, unlike the abrupt responses reported when recipients return the calls.

Hi all, it was a call from this number but I was busy didn't pick up. A message said from Department of Public Procecutor representing ATO. Asked to call back this number before warrant is issued. Called him back and he claimed himself as David Brown. Apparently he knows my home address and said DPP will send letter to me in next 2 days for my fault!
This man should be sentenced to jail for making up thing!!
I just got this voice mail message. Weird thing was my phone rang once only and went straight to voice mail. The message I received is the same as everyone else - a warrant for my arrest, an affidavit in my name, and my house is under surveillance.
I was freaked out until I found this forum! Thank you!
Now I realise they only call and leave a voice message, rather than call to speak to people. This is an automated service, similar to what people in marketing use.
I got a voicemail from this number, robo-voice message suggested they were from the ATO and an arrest warrant was out for my name, which they didn't state, and that the house was under surveillance. I didn't call back, and don't plan to.
The second time this idiot has called me with an ATO Scam. Ignore it or light him up.
Very scary scam!
Total scam !!
Phone claiming to be the ATO and that I was going to be arrested for tax evasion. The caller informed me that there was a warrant out for my arrest and wanted to know if I was aware about this matter. I replied that I knew nothing of this and he suggested that I go to my local police station ?? I've not heard anything more from them. Spoke to my accountant and he said it was a scam ....it's not how the ATO works !!!
I first got a message with an automated ed voice claiming to be Australian Tax Office, regarding a legal issue due to tax evasion.
I rang the number and spoke to someone who claimed his name was Xavier King and that he was a case officer for the ATO, telling me that the ATO is taking me to court, and asking me if I had legal representation. I asked for further information. Supposedly I owe $2580 for the period 2010-2015. Then the line dropped out. When I tried to call back I was disconnected straight away.
Just had the same thing. Don't normally call numbers I don't know back but as they had left a message and I was only running on a couple hours sleep I needed to find out what was going on.
Thinking back on it the fact I got straight through and they didn't say where he was from first until after I said I got a message should have tipped me off to the fact it was a scam.
He was so rude and when I started to press for details he hung up on me. Very hard to understand the dick.
They just called telling me it's about the ato, my house is being watched and There is a warrant for my arrest which is weird as I've never been in any trouble before.
Losers.
Same dialogue as everyone has mentioned.
They gave me a case number and their 'badge ID'.
Really hard to hear them, and sounds super dodgey.
I received the automated message too.
It claimed the ATO was targeting me in an affidavit and my house was under surveillance.
The message requested a call-back. When calling back the line had static and I was asked (by an Aussie voice) what the message was about.
I didn't respond as the call seemed dodgy and then they just hung up.
I tried not to let it bother me but it kind of freaked me out until I researched this forum.
Thanks for sharing everyone and hopefully these guys get shut down soon.
Just got this call and from the outset it just seemed fishy. There are big call centres for this kind of thing so asking someone to call back is just rubbish.
A quick Google search confirmed the scam. Thanks guys!
I just received this call as well. IT IS A SCAM. I just spoke to my accountant and they said it's even happened to them. Ignore them and dob them in.
I also got a Automated voice claiming to be Australian Tax Office, regarding a legal issue due to tax evasion.
When I rang back a very abrupt man told me he was from the commonwealth department of prosecution and that the ATO were taking me to court over tax fraud.
He also had my home address and told me they had sent 3 letters warning me which of course is rubbish.
He was so rude and abrupt and really scared me.
Not that I have done anything wrong. lol!
Automated voice claiming to be Australian Tax Office, regarding a legal issue due to tax evasion.
Clearly a scam, as the ATO does not contact anyone in that manner, they send letters instead.
