(07) 2150 9240 - Male indian, difficult to understand claimed to be from PayPal Fraud Headquarters. Said there was a possibility of a fraud charge on my account for $729 and 90 odd cents. I acted all concerned and said “oh no! I definitely didn’t purchase anything for that amount” He said “it’s set up as a direct debit” I said “I didn’t authorise that - can you please cancel and refund it” He said “I need remote access to your computer and will complete the refund” I said “I am not in front of my computer and am out, so I give you full authorisation to give me the $729 - don’t even worry about the cents” He said “no it doesn’t work like that” I said “well you have my details, I give you permission to refund me” He yelled “I told you it doesn’t work like that!” I continued to tell him to just refund me until he got extremely aggressive and the yelling and profanities got rather colourful. I then just hung up and blocked.
(02) 8127 1909 - “David” indian scammer claiming to be from “PayPal Fraud Squad” (his words) Addressed me by incorrect name but I didn’t correct him as I don’t use PayPal and knew this to be a scam. He told me there was a suspicious transaction that occurs late last night on my account. Told him I was driving and asked if I could call him back. He said he would call me back in 10 minutes. I blocked the number. I received a follow up call from him via a second number (07) 2150-9240. He again addressed me by incorrect name and said the charge to my account was for $729.93 in the form of a direct debit. He then asked me to put my phone on speaker and wanted my IP address to confirm it was the “hacked” one. I procrastinated and asked if he could hold on, which he said he would. I wanted to waste his time so as he could not annoy someone else in this time. I then told him my phone seemed to be playing up and could not give him my ip address and asked if there was another way of getting my refund. He asked me to go to Google and type in “find my 1p address location” followed by a series of numbers. I said “this isn’t working either” He then got angry and abused me and hung up.
