The Scam Details
Consumers have described this call as invasive and unnerving. Identifying the Red Flags
- Unsolicited calls: Legitimate companies, including eBay, do not call customers to confirm charges unless the customer has explicitly initiated contact.
- Pressure tactics: The insistence to "press 9 to speak to an operator" is designed to escalate the tension and pressure you into responding without thinking.
- Requests for personal information: Authentic businesses do not ask for sensitive personal details such as passwords or billing information over the phone.

Fraudulent eBay Charge Confirmation Call
Called and said it was eBay and there was a charge of 299 they wanted confirmed. Said press 9 to speak to operator. Indian lady answered. Asked me if I'd made a purchase of an eBay card value of 299. I said no. She asked if I knew anyone from California that has my details or anyone who has my email and password. I said no. Then I said my card details aren't attached to my account, so how is someone able to purchase from it. Phone line went weird and dropped out.
