Understanding the Scam Behind 02 4203 1934

The phone number 02 4203 1934 / 0242031934 has raised multiple alarms among users, being classified as a scam linked to voice mail phishing. Recent reports indicate that unsuspecting victims are receiving calls that ultimately lead to suspicious voice mail messages promising urgent updates about their services.

How the Scam Works

Victims usually receive a voice mail that begins ominously with phrases like, “Your service may be cancelled…” This tactic is often designed to instill a sense of urgency, compelling individuals to engage with the content of the message. The inclusion of language options, such as pressing a button for English or Chinese, adds an element of legitimacy that deceives many.

Why it's Important to be Cautious

The deceptive nature of this scam lies in its design to mimic legitimate communications from service providers who may need to reach out about account issues. Given that modern scams often employ strategies to create a sense of panic, it’s vital to remain vigilant. To avoid falling victim:

  • Do not engage: Refrain from pressing buttons or responding to the voicemail.
  • Verify: Independently verify any service claims by contacting your actual service provider directly, rather than through contact information provided in the voicemail.
  • Report: Block the number and report it as a scam through your phone provider.

Scam!

Was blocked as spam by Google so I only got the SMS notification of the voice mail.

I called the voice mail box and the message started with "... Your service may be cancelled. For English press x and for Chinese press Y..."

I removed the voice message and agreed with Google's assessment, though it's scam, not just spam.
