Google Verification Code Impersonation Reports for 87894297

Thirteen contributors have reported receiving fake Google verification code SMS messages from 87894297. The scam messages impersonate Google and claim a new device is attempting to log in from international locations - primarily Madrid, Spain, Thailand, and Japan. Each message includes a six-digit code beginning with 'G-' and explicitly instructs recipients to call 87894297 if they did not authorise the login attempt. Multiple contributors noted the messages appeared legitimate at first glance because they mimicked the format of genuine Google verification texts.

The sophistication of this impersonation is notable. Several reports about 87894297 mention the messages were grouped with other authentic Google notifications in their message threads, making them initially difficult to identify as fraudulent. One contributor remarked the scam felt convincing "especially coming from Google," while another noted they only became suspicious after receiving duplicate messages from 87894297.

What These Fake Google SMS Messages Claim

Messages from 87894297 consistently follow a similar pattern with minor variations. Contributors report receiving texts stating: "G-[code] is your code to connect new device in [location]. Wasn't you? Contact +61287894297." The locations mentioned in reports include Madrid, Spain; Thailand; and Japan. Some versions are more detailed, such as "G-797780 is your Google verification code to connect a new device in Madrid, Spain. If you did not authorize this, call us immediately: +61/287894297." Another variant states: "A request to reset your 2FA has been submitted. If this was not initiated by you, please reach out to us immediately at +61/287894297."

The messaging creates artificial urgency by implying unauthorised account access and requesting immediate callback action. Contributors consistently reported these messages were unsolicited - they had not requested any verification codes or device logins. The inclusion of a specific code and international location details is designed to trigger concern and prompt a callback to 87894297.

Also got a Google verification text telling me to call this number if I didn’t request it. Thought it was legit at first because it seems to be grouped with other actually legit messages I had gotten from Google in the past. Kinda confused but I’m just gonna assume it’s a scam to be safe.

"G-971201 is your code to connect new device in Thailand. Wasn't you? Contact +61287894297"

Yep, from 'Google':

G-971201 is your code to connect new device in Thailand. Wasn't you? Contact +61287894297.

Looks legit, especially coming from Google, except they sent the same message twice.

C

Received similar worded text to connect to a device in Japan. The message is allegedly from Google, although no number is displayed. However they ask you to contact +61287894297 if you didn't make the request.

I had exactly the same message sent to me as anon did with the same code. Confusing as this is usually where Google short code messages come, but had to be a scam based on the extra space at the end and the inclusion of a mobile phone number. Don't call the number anybody!
