Message claiming my computer was blocked, trying to extort money

This phone number today appeared on a computer screen. There was a visual and audible message which announced that the computer was locked and the owner should call 1800959974 to recover the situation. I called the number and was answered by a woman who stated she was the Microsoft help desk [or something very similar] and asked me to identify the bottom left key on my keyboard. I told her I wished to know what process she wanted to follow rather than drip feed instructions. I’m not sure if she disconnected at that stage or when, after a silence I said it all sounded like a scam. The computer is, indeed, locked.
