Today.27/6/22 my Surface sent several messages claiming to be Microsoft support. The messages appeared on the screen not in an email. This number was on all the messages.
A friend of mine encountered an issue on Facebook where clicking on a video led to a Windows Defender message prompting him to call Microsoft using this number. Out of curiosity and concern for security, I called them from a landline, but they requested my mobile number.
Warning! DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINK OR CALL THE NUMBER BACK. I had to reboot my computer using control, alt, delete because a pop-up kept appearing that I couldn’t close any other way.
I received a security message on my laptop instructing me to call this number for Microsoft support. The caller claimed there were hackers trying to access my computer and kept me engaged on the phone for about half an hour. However, when I started to question the legitimacy of their claim, they suddenly went silent and ended the call, which made me very suspicious.
The caller claimed to be from Microsoft and harassed my elderly mother, who is 80 years old. They convinced her to download software and gained control of her computer. They even pressured her to log into her bank account, but thankfully she didn’t comply. They continued to harass her with 25 follow-up calls until I got involved. The calls began with an 1800 number and then shifted to New Zealand phone numbers.
This number flashed up on my computer as being from Windows to unblock my computer. Clearly a scam.
1800 951 079 is definitely a scam number, supposedly being Microsoft Support - no answer!
