PHONE SCAM ALERT: At around 1.30pm I received a ROBOTIC call saying "This is the National Broadband Network through Telstra, advising you that we are getting faults running through your National Broadband Network and your National Broadband Network will be disconnected tomorrow and possibly your Telstra phone", please press 1 if you wish to speak with an National Broadband Network personal".....so I pressed 1. On comes a foreign accented woman who claimed she was from the 'technical faults department" ....I said to her "why don't you just f*k off and stop trying to SCAM people". She very calmly said, "There is no reason to speak to me like that and I AM from the National Broadband Network about your service." I said "bullshite you are". I then asked for her name and Telstra ID number, which she gave as 'Jenny Parker ID TLS 50260. I then said to her, "Well I will call YOU back, because this number is not familiar" (I have all the numbers listed near the phone :) ......anyway. I checked on the net with Australian Reverse and the number is listed for a "Data Watch, level 6.100 Walker St Nth Sydney - and which is also a disconnected number :).
So I rang the National Broadband Network and went through 'faults' they checked my phone and line and it's perfect (as I knew) The gentleman then checked the Telstra name and ID given and that too is false.
The thing that got me was the INCREASE in making these scams seem real and convincing. With corona isolation, IF YOU KNOW ANY ELDERLY people or relatives, PLEASE TELL THEM ABOUT THIS SCAM. It WILL trick an older person.
