My mother received a call from this number today, the caller introducing himself as calling from her bank. Which bank, she asked? The Commonwealth Bank, from the Debit Card department. She was unable to take the call so handed it over to me - the caller then said there was a problem with her debit card that needed to be verified via a text message to her phone. Mum doesn't have a mobile anymore so I asked the caller for his number so we could ring back. He gave this number 1800 753 302. A few hours later there was a call to my mother's number allegedly from Telstra. The caller asked to speak to "the daughter" and wanted to send me a text message about my mother's account - apparently she was owed a refund and "Telstra", despite not having my number and not being able to confirm it because it involved "the bank" (who wouldn't have it either). The caller wanted to do the transaction asap and would send a letter to confirm the next day. I said can we hold on the transaction and we'll contact Telstra once we get the letter. "You don't have to do anything". "We're trying to do a nice thing". I then said for them to just credit her account, at which point he hung up. I later confirmed with the Commonwealth Bank that the 1800 number was not one of theirs and they believed it is a fraudulent one. It showed up on my mother's phone as "private number". The call from "Telstra" showed up as 0280 554 151, now blocked. They were extremely persistent so please be vigilant. Hope these bastards burn in hell.
