The number 1800 687 616 being used today 23 May 2023 by heavily accented callers from a call centre purporting to be from National Broadband Network wanting to send a technician to complete so-called upgrade works. Very fishy, and when challenged about being a scam gave this number as a call back number. This was in Victoria Australia. DO NOT call back on this number.

This was an unsolicited call from what sounded like a call center, with a heavy Indian or similar accent. The caller claimed to be from NBN and wanted to verify my address, name, and phone number. They stated they would send a "technician" to "update" our modem and needed access to all devices connected to our network. When I challenged them, they provided a "call back" number: 1800 687 616. I believe this is a probable scam.

A couple of lads from the sub-continent, one called 'Cartwright' and the other called 'Williams', called to say that National Broadband Network was up-grading our postal area from a copper network to a 'super-fibre network'; and that an appointment time would need to be confirmed for a technician to do the work. It all sounded very fishy; especially since we're advised that National Broadband Network doesn't make such arrangements over the phone.
