I was alerted that my computer had been blocked, with a prompt to call 1800 581 484, claiming to represent Microsoft and offering technical support. The caller asked me to perform specific actions and took control of my computer. Realizing it was a scam, I quickly turned off my computer.
No it is a scam I am in Australia by these people saying they are Microsoft Technicians when they are not. If you get a pop up saying you have a spyware problem and this is the No. You are told to ring look for Microsoft in your own country as these people are scammers.
As everyone else has said.. This is a dodgy Indian set-up trying to pretend they are Microsoft Technical Support. I was checking for a friend who's machine appears to be infected. We haven't resolved the issue yet, but I am curious to know whether it's just scare-ware, and a simple reboot, emptying of cache, and removal of plug-in or browser extension is required - OR - whether it's more sinister.
