    I got the text from the usual Telstra prepaid number quoting this number to contact to accept the change they are making to my plan or disconnection will occur. The scammer knows too much as the planned disconnection date is very close to my credit expiry date so I believe Telstra prepaid data must be compromised.

    I have just spoken to Telstra through my normal Telstra number and they have verified that this is for real and not a scam.

    SMS claiming to be from Telstra saying I needed to change plans. Asked at a Telstra Business Centre who directed me to a Telstra Prepaid phone number who didn't want to know me and said I should go to a Telstra Shop. The lady at the Telstra Shop said since it appeared to come from Telstra it must be genuine. She had no idea how scammer work and was quite rude because I didn't believe her. I think Telstra Prepaid database must have been hacked to get to me and others.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
