    I managed to get a refund from Telstra, but they did their very best at sticking their heads in the sand when it came to explaining what they were.

    I too received around 8 or 9 charges to my Telstra home phone account which only existed to service my iinet ADSL2+ at a residential address in Melbourne. I also saw charges to a couple of other numbers very similar but with a 2 on the end etc. Each call lasted less than a minute in the middle of the night. I believe there is a lot more to these numbers that meets the eye, and there's a malicious intent behind them being made. Telstra did their very best at pretending that it wasn't happening. If this sounds familiar to anyone who is reading this, feel free to email my username at gmail dot com for more info.

    I'm getting billed for phoning this number and I don't have a phone. Iinet refuse to credit me back, and I'm going to switch providers.

    Telstra has billed me for phoning this number. Very odd as I don't have a phone and nor do I have any reason to phone this number.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
