The phone number 1300 705 750 is currently under scrutiny, labelled as potentially being both a legitimate fraud detection service for certain banks and also associated with scams. This discrepancy in user experiences raises important questions regarding its credibility, which merits a closer look.

Understanding User Reports

User feedback highlights a variety of interactions with this number. Some have classified it as a legitimate point of contact for fraud concerns, especially related to smaller banks that may not have their own dedicated fraud departments. According to these users, the number is reputable and should be saved for future reference, especially if you are alerted to suspicious activity on your bank account.

Legitimate Fraud Service vs. Scam Risks

Conversely, multiple reviews indicate that this number has also been misused by scammers. Users have reported scenarios where they were contacted by individuals posing as bank representatives asking for sensitive personal information, which ultimately led to fraudulent transactions.

The contradiction in these reports suggests that while 1300 705 750 could be a genuine service assisting with fraud cases, it may also be co-opted for illicit purposes. This places it in a tricky category where caution is necessary when responding to calls or messages from this number.

How to Handle Calls from 1300 705 750

  • Confirm the Source: If you receive a call from this number, do not provide any personal correspondence without first verifying with your bank directly.
  • Check with Your Bank: Reach out to your bank’s official number to inquire whether they have referred you to 1300 705 750 / 00705750 for fraud assistance.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect a scam, report it immediately to your bank so they can take appropriate action.
  • Keep Your Information Secure: Avoid sharing personal details such as account numbers or 'member numbers' unless you have confirmed the legitimacy of the caller.

In summary, while there are valid reasons to connect with 1300 705 750 regarding fraud services—especially for customers of participating smaller banks—one should exercise a level of caution. Classifying it as legitimate or a scam often depends on individual circumstances and the bank involved. Always prioritise the safety of your personal information and keep yourself informed.

This is definitely not a scam. I contacted my credit union using the official number, and they directed me to a team specializing in detecting fraud. These numbers (1300 705 750 & 02 82999534) are listed on P&N Bank website as their fraud section.

However, I called P&N on their main number and was informed that these numbers had been used also by scammers in the past.

In my case, the caller claimed to be from a bank that I use (not P&N), but asked me to have my "member number" ready. My bank does not use member numbers.

So - SCAM.
