Understanding 08 9274 8638: A Glimpse into Suspicious Telemarketing Activities
The phone number 08 9274 8638 / 0892748638 has made its way into the spotlight as a lead generation hotbed. A collection of user reports paints a consistent picture of unsolicited calls, predominantly targeting senior citizens with a so-called “survey.” While the callers purport to represent "Australian Seniors," the overall feedback suggests a more intricate web of telemarketing tactics at play.
Telemarketing Gone Wrong
Reports indicate this number has consistently contacted individuals throughout 2016, often ringing at the same time daily. Callers request to speak with senior citizens and attempt to engage recipients in surveys—which upon closer inspection, appear to be thinly veiled efforts to gather personal information to sell as leads to potentially dubious Australian businesses.
What Type of Scam Is This?
This behaviour aligns with lead generation scams that exploit telemarketing regulations in Australia. Typically, these calls are executed from international call centres, using fake business names or surveys to bypass scrutiny. Clients are often misled with promises of services, particularly in areas tied to finance or home care, and appointments are made to pitch products directly.

What Our Users Reviewed
Calls such as these have been common in recent years and are called lead generation calls. Lead generation is deemed as telemarketing but the Australian government regulator ACMA. The call centres are usually from overseas such as India and Phillipines and they randomly call people and ask general questions about lifestyle and home to then pass on as leads to businesses in Australia. These businesses are usually of financial nature. Appointments will then be made by these call centres for a representative from these Australian businesses to visit you. It is all about trying to persuade you to spend your money and whatever they are trying to sell you. These call centres will always give a fake business name or survey name and give Australian phone numbers that are not traceable to the country of origin. They deliberately ignore Australian government regulations such as the Do Not Call legislation as it is difficult for the Australian government to do much about them other than sending these call centres letters of notification (that is if they can be identified). Ultimately it is the Australian businesses that are connected with these call centres that are responsible, and as much detail as possible needs to be obtained about these businesses and then passed on to the government regulators such as ACMA which can prosecute them. But it can be difficult getting the details of the Australian businesses as the call centres won't give this information, they will hang up on you. You would have to go through with the appointment with the business to get the details of the business. These businesses can be of a dodgy character. Do not ever be persuaded by these call centres. Just hang up.
Rings me and hangs up on answer everyday at the same time....
Said from Australian Seniors, but found her difficult to understand. I said I was not a 'senior', but she kept talking. I said again (very loudly) that I was not a 'senior'. She said 'sorry', but kept talking. I told her not to call this number again, & hung up.
They say they are from Australian Seniors...(didn't catch this bit) to do a survey. Asked where they got the number and they say the "Australian White Pages". When I said I'm not listed in The Australian White Pages and I am on the Do Not Call Register and why are they still ringing, the woman got a bit flustered.
Never answer it just let go to voice mail if is important they will leave a message.
Phoned for the last 3 days at around the same time in the afternoon...2:15pm.
