Understanding Phone Calls from 08 9071 8403

Numerous Australians have reported receiving calls from the number 08 9071 8403 / 0890718403, with mixed reviews regarding its legitimacy. It appears this number is linked to the Australian Pet Welfare Foundation, a registered charity that operates from Western Australia. However, the cross-country nature of their calls has left many individuals sceptical about their intentions.

Classification: Suspicious

The classification of this number falls into a 'suspicious' category primarily due to inconsistent user feedback. Several reviews have mentioned experiences that raise red flags:

  • Charity Interest or not: Although some users identified it as a call from the Australian Pet Welfare Foundation, questions were raised about why a Western Australian charity would seek donations from residents in New South Wales, South Australia, and other eastern states.
  • Lack of Communication: Multiple individuals noted that calls were made without leaving a message, a common tactic among telemarketers and potential scammers.
  • Allegations of Scamming: A few reviews indicated that while it starts with animal welfare outreach, the organisation allegedly attempts to sell unrelated products such as solar equipment which is highly suspicious.

How to Deal with Calls from 08 9071 8403

If you receive a call from this number:

  • Do Not Provide Personal Information: It is crucial not to share personal or financial details over the phone to potentially dubious callers.
  • Ignore or Block the Number: Many users have opted to block the number after their experience. This can easily be done through the phone’s settings.
  • Verify the Caller: If you wish to approach the situation further, consider using Reverseau's Reverse Phone Lookup Australia feature to verify the legitimacy of the number before engaging.

In a world where scams are rampant, it's vital to trust your instincts. If you believe something isn’t right, always prioritise your safety over responding out of obligation. Suspicious calls should not deter genuine charitable acts; knowing how to discern between authentic outreach and possible fraud is integral.

This company claims to be a pet services provider, but they are trying to sell solar equipment instead. It seems like a scam using the name of a legitimate company as a cover.

Don’t know who called, it is unknown to me and therefore likely spam.

This number rang, but did not leave a message. I presume it to be a scam. Looked at the above comment and if it is animal welfare calling from WA, why are they trying to get donations from SA. Have blocked the number now.

P

The caller was Australian Pet Welfare Foundation - a registered charity. WA based, calling east coast of NSW. Number is blocked.

T

This number called me, and they had previously contacted me with a similar number a couple of days ago. I automatically block calls from outside my area, especially since I'm based in Western Australia, and I believe they should focus on residents in WA rather than those on the east coast of the country.
