In Australian society where phone scams have become increasingly sophisticated, awareness is key.

User Reports Analysis

Upon evaluating several user reviews dated 22nd and 23rd July 2024, it appears that this number often initiates short calls and fails to leave a voicemail, a typical behaviour for fraudsters. The majority of reports highlight an alarming pattern: a common tactic employed by scammers is to impersonate reputable organisations.

The Nature of the Scam

One particularly noteworthy report describes an automated message purportedly from ANZ Bank, claiming an unauthorized transaction had occurred on the user’s debit card. The caller urged recipients to press a number to either cancel or approve the transaction. This alarming method exemplifies a phishing scam, where the intent is to extract personal information or unsuspecting compliance through fear.

Pseudonym Assault: Caller Identity

Another concerning account revealed a caller claiming to be 'Jane from Telstra,' which further aligns with the suspicions of an elaborate scam. Users mentioned hearing conversations in an unidentified language before being directed back to English, suggesting a scripted and unprofessional approach—warning signs that should not be overlooked.

Safety Measures and Recommendations

Given the implications of these reports, here are some actionable steps to take if you receive a call from 08 7924 7132:

  • Do Not Engage: Avoid pressing any prompts or providing personal information during unexpected calls.

I’ve been receiving a lot of scam calls lately, all from different numbers. This one didn’t connect properly, the caller didn’t realise I was on the line and was chatting in a language I didn’t recognise and then suddenly switched to English and said she was Jane from Telstra. Interesting that you can’t call back to this number.
