Visa Impersonation Scam Reports for 08 7371 2708
A South Australian contributor has reported receiving a fraudulent call from 08 7371 2708 (also written as 0873712708) impersonating Visa's security department. The caller claimed the contributor's card had been used for an unauthorised overseas shopping spree, a common tactic designed to trigger panic and bypass critical thinking.
The caller on 08 7371 2708 reportedly had poor English proficiency. When the contributor calmly stated they had authorised the transaction, the caller immediately hung up. This rapid disengagement after confrontation is characteristic of scammers who rely on victims accepting their false premise without pushback.
What the Caller from 08 7371 2708 Claimed
According to the report, the caller identified themselves as being from Visa's security department. The specific claim was that the contributor's card had been involved in an overseas shopping spree without authorisation. This framing serves multiple purposes for scammers: it creates urgency, appeals to the victim's financial self-interest, and positions the caller as a helpful authority figure offering to "fix" the problem.
The contributor's response of stating they had authorised the transaction immediately deflated the scam premise. Rather than pivoting to a backup tactic or attempting further persuasion, the caller from 0873712708 terminated the call. This suggests the scammer had limited training or flexibility in their social engineering approach.

Indian male in busy call centre with poor English claimed to be from Visa Security.
Said he has just noticed some strange behaviour on my account and wanted to see if I wished to have them removed and refunded. I said I didn’t believe there to be any issues. He asked me to put my phone speaker and asked me to give him my IP address. I asked why he wanted that and he said “I f*king told you I need to refund your Visa card”
I said “it’s ok, I’m standing in line at my bank now, I will sort it out in person with the bank teller”
He got more aggressive and said “get out of the f*king line at the bank, and we will sort this out over the phone. Do not tell the bank staff I am talking to you about it”
I told him not to speak to me like that and I could hand my phone over to the bank teller and he could tell them about the strange behaviour that’s supposedly happening on my account”
He continued to scream and swear at me.

Is 08 7371 2708 really calling from Visa?
No. The contributor who reported 08 7371 2708 (0873712708) received a scam call impersonating Visa's security department. Visa never initiates contact about card issues through unsolicited calls. Always hang up and contact Visa directly using the number on your card to verify any claims.
What should I do if 0873712708 calls claiming my card was used overseas?
Hang up immediately. Do not confirm any details or accept the premise. Legitimate card issuers do not contact you unsolicited about suspicious activity. Contact your bank or Visa directly using the official number on your card. The call from 08 7371 2708 is a scam designed to create panic and bypass your defences.
Why did the caller from 08 7371 2708 hang up when questioned?
The contributor challenged the caller's claim by stating they had authorised the transaction. When the scammer's premise was questioned, they had no recovery tactic and simply disconnected. Scammers rely on victims accepting their story without critical thinking. 0873712708 appears to be operated by someone with limited social engineering skills.

Additionally, report the number to Scamwatch and ACMA to protect other Australians from this impersonation scam.
What makes this call from 0873712708 suspicious?
Several red flags identified by the contributor: the caller's poor English proficiency despite claiming to be from a major international company, the unsolicited contact about a problem they couldn't verify, and the immediate hang-up when the story was challenged. Legitimate Visa security calls do not behave this way.
