    This phone number called me on Friday 5/3/2021 from an Indian accented lady. She said I was involved in a car accident within the last year. I knew it was a scammer as I have been rung about this before and I have not been involved in a car accident for years. I told her she was a scammer and hung up on her.

    Yet another scam. The “you’ve been in a car accident” scam has shifted to this number. They start by asking for your first name and then saying “I have records that you were in an accident and weren’t at fault”. They can’t tell you the date of the “accident”, where it occurred, what vehicles were involved or even the surname of the person they think they’re speaking with.

    I call them back every 5 mins or so to clog up their line until they kill the number off. Hopefully it’s worked again.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
