    Was rung & a voicemail said to call 08 7150 1143 as an Affidavit had been taken out against me for Tax Fraud. A 'George Walton' gave me his ID# PD71195 and my case# VIC7019521 & told me to write everything down, that it was very serious & I was in violation of Section 21C & had violations which he proceeded to tell me quickly ie: count 1.. Count 2... & count3... It sounded pretty legit & worrying. He quoted a period of four years in which they did a statutory audit where they found I had unpaid tax. The amount $2.585.00, a fair bit to miss, but not enough for the threat of the police coming to pick me up to take me to jail. It was confusing as he was telling me I needed to get a lawyer and I will have it marked on all my records and my workplace will find out about it if I didn't follow the two protocalls laid out for me. Protocall one was Public, Protocall two was Privacy. Anytime I objected or said that it was ridiculous that I would have known if I owed that much tax when I received refunds most years, he would quote sections of the law that I had supposedly broken. I was also told (as a threat) the call was being recorded and anything I said would be used for my case in court. And if I didn't stay on the phone whilst driving to the nearest mailbox to pay the outstanding amount (into an account that he would give me once I got to the post office) that police would be around to pick me up! He still kept going when I said the ATO would not call threatening legal action.

    Yeah, received this scan a few minutes ago. Recording of a female American voice throwing a bunch of buzzwords (your house is under surveillance, affidavit against your name etc.) at you to scare you in to calling them back.

    Didn't call, but no doubt they'd want some money somehow.

    So if you give them your name, what can they do? If they want to get credit cards, they have no chance as I have bad credit haha. They don't have any of my other details though.

    I received a call from this same number, saying there was a tax fraud case filed against me.

    This was bizarre and sounded immediately like a scam as I am a non tax resident and the name they used is shortened from my official tax roll name.

    I took down a few of their details and his name of George Walton, his Indian accent certainly not supporting his name. When I asked him to confirm his organisations name again, he hung up immediately and when I tried to call back their was only an engaged signal.

    It is a shame that people in this world prey on others like this. Only if they turned their energy to something positive.

    I hope no one gets caught in this cowardly scam.

    Stay safe!!

    Someone called me from 08 7150 1143 and when I answered I listened to a recorded voice message saying it was the crime and investigations department for tax and to call them immediately.

    I called them and a Indian guy answered which I thought was strange and said he was from the same departmentmend stated on the voicemail. I said my name and then he hanged up straight away.

    Now when I call them they don't answer.

    Scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
