    Amazon do not call customers. I rang Amazon when I first received a call like this. Today I Received a message saying something about a parcel. I don't buy from Amazon and I don't have a credit card.

    Received a call from the number 0870894149 at 12:32PM.

    Automated speaking, said you purchased goods at $299 and it will be delivered in 2~3 days.

    Speak to customer service press number I don't remember.

    I have no purchase of the amount from any one.

    So, it is a kind of fake and hang up.

    Spoke to a Indian woman advising she was from Amazon and I had made a $299 purchase of a gift card they needed to verify. I confirmed I didn’t make said purchase - she admitted it was a scam on the phone and she was just doing this work as she was struggling during the pandemic in India.

    Hopefully she understood what she’s doing is wrong and finds something better but she clearly knew she wasn’t doing the right thing by hard working Australians suffering as well.

    This is a scam call - this call centre wants to verify your credit card information in order to process your ‘$299 Amazon gift card’ purchase, and then take your money from your account.

    Please don’t answer this call, never provide you card details over the phone etc.

    I just got a call from this number and I rang back and it was an Indian speaking lady to say that $299 was going to be debited from my account for an Amazon gift card? I told her that this is not correct and she asked “someone else in the family do this?” To which I responded no and hung up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
