I am grateful I consulted Reverse AU before taking any action regarding the suspicious call! I am very frustrated with the ongoing scams affecting phone and computer users, and I hope action can be taken against these scammers.
Just received a desktop OC Lockup claiming to be from Microsoft Defender, saying to call 0870894146 do not turn PC off or data will be lost etc. Did not call number, its a known scam trying to get your personal information.
This number is active again now. Appeared on the computer as a very convincing MS Windows Defender alert. Advised the user to call the number to speak to MS for the fix.
After I strung them along for a while they called back from 02 6145 2611.

I had a strange loud noise on my computer. I blocked my number to call the help number on the screen.
Within 15 mins they called my number and told me they were from Microsoft. How did they get my number when I blocked my number. They called back using a mobile number. I told them I had no issue and they hung up. Very strange system.
I got a loud alarm on my computer to say that my computer was blocked and I would have to phone 08 7089 4146 to get it unblocked. I spoke to someone who instructed me on what to do, but after a while I became suspicious and hung up. He phoned back a couple of times, but when my wife answered he hung up! The alarm on my computer was very real and scary, and prevented me from using it until I did what he told me to do. If it happens again, I will simply force shut down my computer!
