I missed a call from this number and called back, but I went straight to a voicemail that threatened to charge $299 to my PayPal account. This is clearly a scam!

The call went to voicemail, where I was prompted to press '1' to cancel a debit transaction, which seemed highly suspicious.

I had several calls from this number and when I called back, it claimed to be 'national claims helpline.' It gave me 3 options. Press 1 to report an accident.2 for an existing claim and 3 for other options. After selecting 3, I was transferred to someone, clearly of Indian ethnicity, who answered the phonecall with 'hello' If it was a legitimate business, he would have answered with at least his name and status.

He then asked for my details after I had explained that I had received several missed calls from the number and wanted to know why.

I refused to give my details, but he had my name (even though I had not shared this information with him).

I suggested that it was a scam, which he refuted and said that had been involved in an accident, which I denied. He then said that the accident hadn't been my fault and I could claim. I again denied being involved in an accident.

He then apologised for bothering me and said I would not hear from him again.

Definitely an attempted scam, but what worries me is how he knew my name.
