Understanding the Threat: 08 6621 6107

The phone number 08 6621 6107 has raised considerable concern among users, with many reports categorising it as a scam. The primary complaints relate to its association with fraudulent activity targeting Amazon customers, often involving compromised credit card information. Users have identified this number as part of a sophisticated scam operation, primarily centred around mimicking legitimate Amazon transactions.

Scam Analysis: What's Happening?

Numerous reports detail a worrying trend that involves this phone number. Users have recounted experiences where this number surfaced in fraudulent bank transaction notifications, typically stating bogus $0 charges from Amazon. The scam often follows a pattern, whereby the victim receives a call from a different number, 02 7228 1102, which falsely claims to verify a legitimate purchase. This sort of deception is prevalent in what is known as phishing scams, where attackers attempt to gather sensitive information under the guise of legitimate businesses.

Scam Techniques: The Three-Step Approach

In one particular report, individuals mentioned a three-step scam process, which commonly involves:

  • Receiving an SMS regarding phantom fees or transactions.
  • Being coaxed into entering credit card details, thinking it's for a valid service or refund.
  • Discovering fraudulent charges post-interaction, leading to potential identity theft.

This manipulative strategy is designed to create confusion, prompting victims to react instinctively without cross-verifying the legitimacy of the caller or message.

Identifying a Scam vs. Legitimate Calls

It's vital to differentiate between genuine calls and potential scams. Key indicators that a call may be fraudulent include:

  • Requests for sensitive information over the phone or SMS.
  • Unsolicited calls claiming to represent well-known companies like Amazon.
  • Follow-ups regarding transactions that you do not recall making.

While some reports paint a less severe picture, with claims of legitimate transactions after receiving a message featuring this number, the overall consensus remains grim. The potential for misuse of information from victims stands as a significant issue.

Protecting Yourself: Steps to Take

If you encounter 08 6621 6107, exercise caution:

  • Do not disclose personal information to unsolicited callers.
  • Utilize a Reverse Phone Lookup Australia service to verify unknown numbers.
  • Report any suspicious calls to relevant authorities.
  • Monitor your bank statements for unauthorised transactions.

In conclusion, 08 6621 6107 stands out as a scam phone number linked to fraudulent Amazon activities. Staying vigilant is key to protecting your personal information and avoiding these malicious scams.

This number appeared in the description of a $0 Bank Transaction stating it was from Amazon, at the same time as another $0 transaction which referenced Visa. Both were related but bogus.

These appeared after receiving a call from 02 7228 1102 claiming to be Amazon confirming a legitimate Gift Card purchase on Amazon AU.

I cancelled Cards, changed Passwords etc. As it is a scam.
