Just got a call from a man with an Indian accent saying he was from the RTA and wanting to confirm my name and address and whether or not I had been in an accident in the last 12 months. I told him that I would not release that sort of information over the phone and that if he was from the RTA he could send me a letter. He said he was just ringing to confirm the information he had and kept wanting me to confirm the name and address was correct and then a letter would be sent. He said that there was an entitlement to insurance of $6000 if people had had an accident. I told him that in that case my insurance company would contact me, not the RTA. He just kept pressing me to confirm who I was and I told him that I thought the phone call was a scam and I would not answer any questions on the phone. The big giveaway for me was that he called me by a surname that I rarely use.
My husband told the caller 'from the RTA' that the line was.
