The Stanford of Fraud: How Does It Work?

The individuals behind this call often use a script, asking if you or a family member have been involved in an accident recently. Some users have reported that the callers have difficulty communicating clearly, frequently featuring an accent that raises suspicions. One user even noted the caller couldn’t spell "Australia," which is a red flag when one considers the seriousness of their claims.

User Experiences Highlight the Scam

User feedback consistently reflects unease and frustration with their interactions. Many have reported that the caller insists on asking for personal information while alleging they need to confirm details regarding the supposed accident. For instance, there are claims of callers referencing private details about vehicle registration or personal incidents—access that sounds exceedingly dubious given the context of the calls.

What Should You Do if You Receive a Call from This Number?

  • Do Not Engage: If you receive a call from 08 6225 2691, it is best to hang up immediately. Engaging with the caller may lead them to pursue further communication.

Friends wife got a call from this number.

Said her vehicle was in an accident snd even repeated her rego number to her.

They said they were from Bunbury Police station, then asked her to confirm her details.

They got into her phone and changed all passwords, into her email and into their bank accounts.

Just had a call from this number also.. Asked if I'd had an accident a while ago. Said that I hadn't. Asked them the name of the person they were trying to contact and he had no clue.. Said "we're the para-legals and weren't provided with that information". He then said something about personal data but I'd switched off by then. Told him it was clearly a scam and hung up. Not sure what the end game for them would have been or what info they'd have tried to get out of me. I should have played the game a little longer to string him on.

Asking about an accident I had. Obviously a scam but I'd like to know where they get our numbers from seeing as most people here have actually had an accident..

Had the delightful pleasure of a call from the "claims department" for "Australia", asked if he could spell Australia, he had issues. Impolitely, started laughing at the Indian gentleman, then asking how much he wanted for the scam, well to my surprise he hung up.

Had a missed call from this number 08 6225 2691. They left a message but said nothing & all you could hear was a TV or something in the background. I attempted to call them back but number would not ring, instead a voice recording, that said "goodbye". Definitely dodgy!

Similar to the other comments, a man with an Indian accent from the Claims Department calling about my recent accident. Obviously fishy, told him I have never had an accident.

Same as above,

"Claims department" calling about a recent accident me or my family member had been in...?

Told him if he was working a scam, he might want to work on his english.

Got a call from this number, and the guy said he was from a claiming service, calling about an accident I had in the last 6 months. I said what kind of accident. He said an auto accident. That's when I said I didn't have a car and hung up the phone. Not sure what they were trying to achieve but it seemed really dodgy.
