Receiving calls that claim to be from reputable companies can be unnerving, especially when they're linked to your internet services. One such number that has raised eyebrows among Australian users is 08 6117 7362. Reports indicate that this number is being used in a scam where the caller poses as a representative from the National Broadband Network (NBN), attempting to retrieve personal information.
The Scam Revealed
According to user experiences, calls from this number typically involve the caller pretending to be from the NBN and offering upgrades for broadband services, even reaching out to customers who use satellite internet. During these calls, the caller inquires about the number of devices connected to the WiFi and whether the user pays their internet bill online or via the post office. However, there’s a significant red flag: when pressed to provide an Australian Business Number (ABN) for verification, the caller refuses, claiming they are "not permitted" to disclose such information.
Understanding the Risks
- Scammers often exploit the credibility of well-known services like the NBN to manipulate unsuspecting individuals.
- By asking specific questions, they may attempt to gather personal and financial information that could lead to identity theft.
- The refusal to provide a proper ABN or legitimate business details indicates that this call is far from legitimate.

What Our Users Reviewed
Received a call from this number advising they were from the National Broadband Network and wanted to upgrade my National Broadband Network (I have satellite internet) I played along and she wanted to know how many devices were attached to my wifi and my speed. Asked me if I pay my internet bill online or at the post office. Once I told her the post office she couldn’t get me off the phone fast enough telling me someone will call me back sometime! I replied “but what about my upgrade” she said someone will call back. When I asked her company she said National Broadband Network Australia, however when I asked her for an ABN she said she was not permitted to tell me. Beware! Scammers everywhere.
