    Got an automated computer voice answer saying that there was a lawsuit by the Australian Taxation Office against me and if I don't call back I will get arrested. Given such a serious matter, you would think a person would be used to call you? Definitely a scam.

    Scam. A robot called me saying he would issue a warrant for my arrest. No robot can beat me though, I'll eat and digest them with my complex series of organs if they try to arrest me.

    Received a voicemail from this number. The recording stated that I needed to call back immediately or they will "get me arrested". When I called back (not from my phone), it was disconnected. Nuisance or fraudulent caller, I assume.

    Just received a call from this number on my work mobile.... With a very precise recorded message that says "Hello, this is a call from ATO" so I slam it down.

    Next thing my work mobile was ringing my personal mobile so I think its a chain effect.

    If this is really a landline call, then their number has most probably being compromised. But it could also be one of those Russian number whose country code is +75.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
