I received a call from this number today and it was an automated message from the ATO saying that I was being prosecuted but they could not provide any details of the case and to please call a specific number. This is a SCAM!!! Do not accept or call back this number or the number they provide you.

I received an automated call message claiming it was the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) and they were going to issue a lawsuit against me. I hung up and called back. To my surprise an Asian gentleman answered. I gave him no details but questioned him - he rather calmly and confidently gave me a Head Office number, which was a disconnected Canberra line, and even his name and employee number. These fraudsters are becoming more savvy with their responses to make us believe they are legitimate. I called the ATO directly to double check. YES this is a SCAM. So, NEVER give your details and be aware that the ATO for privacy, ethical and other reasons would not make such a call. How did these fraudsters manage to show up with a Gold Coast number? Simple rerouting technology. Stay alert!
