    They didn't talk at first and it did sound like an Indian call centre. Typical scam, I am calling you from Amazon about you $99 gift card.

    Suspect the caller didn't realise I'd answer so fast, heard a woman talking in what was probably Hindi, and someone else started talking. Heavy heavy Indian accent, very bad signal. Honestly probably a scam company in India spoofing an Australian number so people would pick it up more often. They hung up midway through talking.

    Received a call from this number at 12:00 today (17 May 2022) with a woman on the line (foreign - slightly European accent) claiming to be from Microsoft, advising that my computer was sending her error messages and she was concerned about the integrity of my PC here at home. I asked her to tell me where my home is, and she demanded that I tell her where HER home is, in response. I asked again where I am located, and she got more agitated, and insisted that I give her my details, at which point I simply hung up my phone.

    Rings multiple times a day. Never leaves a message. Rang back - it’s a number belonging to professional charity callers.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
