    Two missed calls today.. Nearly rang back then instinct told me it might be markrting or scam. Looked up on here instead. I live on Bribie Island. Are they ringing from here? Landlines here start with 34.

    Survey caller. Called on Sunday 3:45pm which is a definite DO NOT CALL time for any marketing/survey call.

    Bloody annoying mob repeatedly calling landlines and mobiles re Susan Lamb. Who cares? How do they bypass the Do not call register - that in itself is a bloody joke.

    Bribie Island only ever had 073408xxxx or 073410xxxx. These "NEW" looking numbers can be purchased from anywhere in the world. That's handy for scammers because they look local. I have found the if you answer unknown calls with "Hello, John speaking" they tend to hang up as they may have called a business. NEVER use the words YES, OK, RIGHT or AGREE as that could trigger a unknown contract.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
