    Answered phone to an automated message in a female voice saying the call was from VISA card about an online shopping charge (of over $1.000) on my account. The greeting from the voice was "Dear Customer". Obvious sign that this was a SCAMMER. The voice went on to say to report the charge as fraudulent press 1 & to authorise press 2. Reading the other posts confirms that THIS IS A SCAM.

    Clearly a scam and either wanting to speak and de-fraud, or have me call back and waste time and money.

    Claimed my National Broadband Network would be cancelled due to fraudulent use. I was bored so I let them rave on for 15mins, pretending to open apps they told me to d/l to fix a problem. Drove them nuts saying I d/l and they kept asking for serial numbers, which I of course gave incorrect ones. In the end I told them I’m with Optus and they told me F$&k Off and my mother will die. Hahaaaaaaaa.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
