    The lady said she was ringing from National Broadband Network and then when silent on the line for a full minute after I said I wasn't interested. Full creepy psycho-killer breathing and everything. Hung up after I told her to take me off their lists.

    Caller said he was from National Broadband Network and wanted to make my National Broadband Network secure. I Asked where he was calling from, said Sydney and rattled off an address and on the 8th floor. This doesn’t tally with the area code he was calling from. Suspect this was a scam.

    This phone number may be a scam, a recorded voice message stated I would be charged $299.99 but unsure why or how they hope to achieve a payment from me?

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
