After reading some information from others about this number, I initially thought it was a scam. However, based on recent reports, I suspect it may be related to energy pricing, so I'm gathering more information.
I received a call today claiming to be from the Australian cybercrime unit. They mentioned that new accounts had been created and that they needed additional information from me, which made me wary of the legitimacy of the call.
A person called pretending to be from ANZ bank, asking if I had authorized a payment of $1580 to someone named Jeff Walker in New Zealand. Since I do not bank with ANZ, I decided to keep them on the line and provided fake access numbers. After the third attempt to get my information, the caller insulted my mother and abruptly hung up.
The caller was a woman with a strong accent claiming to represent Telstra. She mentioned a discount that I could receive on my account for the next seven months.
This is a spam call, and I strongly advise against answering it if you don't want to waste your time.
