Reports reveal worrying patterns that indicate this number is part of a larger effort to deceive individuals into revealing sensitive banking information.

What the Users Are Reporting

Feedback from users indicates that the calls made from 07 3305 9288 / 0733059288 typically feature an automated message suggesting there has been an unauthorized transaction of $1800 from a debit account. Callers are then prompted to either authorize the payment by pressing 1, or to decline by pressing 2. This automated system quickly transitions to a foreign-sounding individual—often women or men with accents—who solicit further banking details from the recipient.

Why It's Classified as a Scam

This number is classified as a scam for several key reasons:

  • Impersonation of Trusted Institutions: The caller claims to be from Commonwealth Bank, one of Australia's most reputable banks. Legitimate institutions will never make unsolicited calls asking for sensitive information.
  • Mismatch with Customer Relationship: Users like yourself have reported not having any business with Commonwealth Bank, however, the calls continue, indicating a phishing attempt rather than a genuine concern.
  • Suspicious Response to Basic Queries: Callers tend to terminate the call once questioned or requested to verify the legitimacy of the claim, signalling dishonest intentions.

What You Should Do

If you receive a call from 07 3305 9288 / 0733059288 or a similar number, it’s crucial to take the following steps:

  • Do not engage. Simply hang up if you suspect a scam.
  • Never provide any personal or financial information over the phone.

  • Consider reporting the number to services like Reverseau for further investigation and assistance in tracking down scam activities.

An automated message claimed to be from Commonwealth Bank regarding the transfer of $1800 from my debit account. I was prompted to press 1 for authorization or 2 for not authorizing, but then was transferred to a woman with an Indian accent who requested a lot of personal banking information. I do not even bank with Commonwealth.
