Understanding the Calls from 07 3198 2039
Recently, the phone number 07 3198 2039 has been flagged by numerous users as a scam originating from someone impersonating National Broadband Network (NBN) representatives. Interestingly, the details gathered from various reports suggest a trend: callers claim service issues that usually don't pertain to most receivers.
Details of the Scam
The reports indicate that individuals, such as "Jason Williams," represent themselves as NBN technicians reaching out about slow internet connections. However, as one user rightly pointed out, not all recipients are actually subscribed to NBN services, raising immediate red flags.
- Red Flag Number One: Inbound calls claiming an internet issue typically require the recipient to verify their modem settings, which is not standard procedure for legitimate NBN representatives.
- Red Flag Number Two: Reports of this number are not isolated; other users have also connected it to scams that falsely claim to be associated with major telecom companies like Telstra.
Protecting Yourself from Scams
What can you do if you receive a call from 07 3198 2039? Here are a few tips:
- Do Not Engage: If the caller insists they are from a company you do not use, refrain from providing any personal information. Simply hanging up can be the best option.
- Verify Independently: If you feel the call could possibly be legitimate, hang up and contact the service provider directly using known contact numbers, not those provided by the caller.
- Report the Call: Notify the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) or a federal agency that handles unsolicited calls about the matter.
Conclusion
In summary, 07 3198 2039 has been identified as a fraudulent number attempting to scam individuals under the façade of a legitimate internet service issue. Awareness of such scams, along with cautious and proactive measures, can significantly reduce the impact of such fraudulent activities.

This call seems to be similar to other calls I have received in the past few days. Comments from other users suggest that it may be an attempted scam related to 'Telstra'.
I got a call from a "Jason Williams" from this number saying that my internet National Broadband Network connection is slow and that I should go to my modem and check for something. He claimed to be from the National Broadband Network company.
The thing is, I don't have National Broadband Network. So clearly a Scam call.
