Scanners trying to get whatever personal information they can about you.
Undoubtedly a phishing attempt looking to get your information to steal your identity (your name and phone number are excellent places to start). Does not offer any identification, offers an upgraded phone. They have called me twice so far. They are amusingly hopeless though.
First time they hung up as soon as I asked for their identity.
Second time, I recognised the number but wanted to play. It was the same person as the first time and this time there was someone in the background speaking very angrily in a language I could not understand. I asked why there was someone yelling so loudly and where they were from. They hung up.
Same as everyone else, got a call offering me a new phone as I'd been using my "for ages" (not a month old).
Said they were a wholesaler from Optus, when I asked how they got my info as I have no dealings with Optus they basically told me where to go and hung up.
Scam, DO NOT ANSWER.
Called me, it comes up as a QLD phone number. Indian woman saying that I won a free android phone because I have used this number for a very long time. (Never said her company, unprofessional and dead give away) I also have been using Apple for the past 7 years. Why would I want an Android? As soon as I said no, she hung up.
N00b af scammer.
Just got a call to ask about my number without identifying who they are. I asked twice. They tried to divert it by asking if I used for a long time. I said I do not know who you are to ask. In the process of that they hung up.
Forget them. Don't bother answering.
Just got 2 calls from this number. The caller said they were from Optus and said I had been selected to be sent a free new phone. They didn't know my name, address or couldn't tell me if I was on a plan or owned my phone outright. The REAL Optus would know these details.
Scam Alert. Hang up.
I had a call from this number. It was a Brisbane number, so it seemed legitimate. The man asked to "speak to the owner of the phone I am calling". I asked who he was, and he wouldn't tell me. Insisted that I tell him who I was. When I said I wouldn't he said - I already know who you are. I've got your details on my system. Your name is xxx xxx. Fortunately, he used my past married name (which I haven't used for years) so I knew it was a scam. I asked him where he was calling from and he hung up on me. Couldn't call the number back. It was a dummy number.
Scam. Do not answer.
This is spam. Not able to return missed call from this number.
Got pestered by this guy claiming I'd been selected for a phone. I hung up.
Called saying I'm eligible for a free android phone claiming they are Optus' phone wholesaler. Then they asked how much I spend on my phone. I hung up.
