    I never pickup strange numbers. I often Google the number to see if there are negative comments on it first.

    If you ring landline back it's quiet for a long time and then strange beeping.

    Received a call from 0731529000 2day...

    A stubborn Lady with an accent kept asking me if the Optus number she just rang was my number...

    Probably anticipating that I would reply with "Yes"...

    Instead I decided to Sing to her ;) Just random lyrics, lmfao ;) After a few attempts of her asking me, & me responding with even more singing, she cracks it & says "Will You Shut Up & Listen To Me!!!".

    @ this point what did I do...

    I Just kept singing, lmfao ;) My workmates were in stitches, they loved the show ;).

    Dodgy central.

    Told me I had been loyal and so I was receiving a 40% reduction on calls to fixed landline phones from next week. When I told them it was pointless as I was on a fixed contract they wanted to know when I got my handset.

    I questioned who they were and why they could not see my info and they advised they were an "Optus Wholesaler" - after I said I wasn't interested they hung up on me.

    Sounded like a scam.

    They offered me a phone because I'm a loyal customer. But they knew my mobile number which is a bit disturbing.

    I asked 'is it locked to Optus' and they said yes. Then I said 'why would I be interested in a free phone that was locked?' Then they gave up and hung up.

    Repeated my phone number to me asked if it was my number.. Replied with where are you calling from? No comment. Went into a spiel saying I have had my number for a long time and was a good customer who paid my bills on time... Then offered me a smartphone of some description of no cost to me. Hmmm where are you calling from? Optus?

    My question to you is how do you know I've had this number a long time and that I pay my bills on time if I have never been with Optus???? They hung up!

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
