    Got a call from an Indian speaking person. Tells me he's from Optus wholesale. Of course I know it's spam. So I string him along he tells me that I can get a free phone so I give him false name. He then tells me I pay $35 at post office. Then manager gets on phone and tries to tell me $89. Then I'm like hey what its $35 and pay at post office. To finilize deal he needs debit card numbers so I ask him where are you calling from he tells me Brisbane "what suburb" Fortitude Valley. Then he hangs up on me. I try calling the number back cos it's local and all I hear is "beep beep" They will try anything if only the Australian government can cease all calls from India. Australians will be better off.

    After 20 mins sales rep finally convinced me they were from Optus and offering upgrade for 4G network. Got to contract and they threw in 'Real-sim will now handle your billing'. Wait, what? Checked out their website. They are legit telco but fraudulent and illegal sales tactics. They will tell you any lie to get a customer.

    Others would use this number as it is an Internet re-router number or some such.

    Took a call from this number and could not hear the caller so I hung up. They immediately called back and yelled "why did you hang up?!", and then hung up on me.

    Yep, indian lady saying I was selected for a new phone. Told me I was prepaid - um no.3 month old S7 on a 2 year Telstra plan with home National Broadband Network - she had no idea. Told 'no thank you bye' and hung up.

    Typical cold calling scam hoping they get something right on the right person. Doubt they're from Brisbane - probably re-routed somehow so you think it's a local call.

    Been phoned twice now on this number by a non Australian sounding person I. E Indian accent. Both times said they were the wholesaler of my phone Network. When I asked which company it was he again said it's your mobile wholesaler. Yeah right...... Said that because I had been using this number for such a long time I was being rewarded with a FREE mobile phone. Told him that I thought it was a scam and put the phone down.

    So annoyed where do they get the nerve to ring you up and try and con you.

    Just missed a call at 1.53 p.m. today Monday 14 November 2016 on my mobile from this number - so glad from the comments above that I missed it.

    Bad enough getting these calls on landlines but now even a mobile is not safe from these scammers.

    When are the authorities going to close them down - especially if they can trace to where they are ringing from e.g. Queensland somewhere (Brisbane, Bribie Isalnd)??

    Scam Scam Scam, my phone tells me when a call comes through if it's spam or fraud but I pick up just to give them a grilling because I know these scammers are always out to rip people off. I suggest those who have been targeted by this number to block it so you don't hear from them again.

    Have received calls from this number twice now. Both times they told me they were calling from Optus and offering me a new smart phone delivered to my door because of all the people in my suburb, I have been chosen, as well as a new mobile plan that is better that my current one. My call was being transferred to the 'manager' for me to provide my details.... At which point I disconnected the call.

    Sounds SUPER dodgy!!

    This number keeps ringing to try and get you to sign onto a contract that is too good to be true, and claims you're going to get a free mobile phone. It is a scam just hand up.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
