    Lady stating she was from Telstra and needed to help me with my ip address from my phone she made me search what my ip was and asked me to read it to her. As soon as I said no, I don't want to give it to you, I don't know who you are - she hung up.

    This call showed as coming from Brisbane, Queensland. When answered, a recorded female voice purporting to be from Visa and Mastercard told me that my account had been debited of about $1900 and that I should press button 1 if the debit was fraudulent, or press button 2 if it was OK. Needless to say I didn't press any numbers and hung up. Same old scam!

    Didn't answer the call, and then got a voicemail with a recording that started in Mandarin Chinese, then repeated in English. Something about Chinese embassy and an urgent document not received. Clearly a scam.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
