    This is the second call today from spam numbers. One from Melbourne and this one. Both just hang up when I answer. I have blocked them both. So annoying!

    For two days I've been receiving calls from two numbers, and this is one of them.

    I answer in a totally quiet environment, and when I pick up I say nothing. They say nothing at all on the other end, and then they hang up.

    If this was a genuine call from a genuine caller or business, they be saying 'hello? Hello??'.

    Scammy, annoying, time-wasting irritants who do not know how to drum up business in an honest way (& I'm talking about the companies that employ these methods). Anyone who takes a job working on a line like this, making calls for a company to sell stuff people would seek out only when they wanted it, needs to re-evaluate what they're doing for a crust.

    It's from insuranceline. Told them I wasn't interested but she kept pressuring me to take a call from a rep even when I said no.

    Don't answer it whatever you do. It's a waste of time.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
