Callback Lure Reports for 07 2809 3557
Three contributors have reported activity from 07 2809 3557 (also written as 0728093557), a Queensland-based landline allocated to Symbio Networks. The dominant pattern involves callback lure tactics, where the number calls without leaving a voicemail, prompting recipients to return the call. One contributor specifically identified this callback lure behaviour as a scam technique used to generate call charges or harvest personal information when the victim calls back.
The number has been flagged as spam by phone systems after multiple community reports. One contributor noted that their phone initially did not flag 0728093557 as spam, but within hours of receiving the call it was labelled with a red warning, indicating rapid reporting activity from other users.
Call Patterns from 07 2809 3557
Contributors report receiving calls from 07 2809 3557 during afternoon hours, consistent with a pattern of repeated interstate landline calls. One contributor who experiences scam calls several times weekly identified this number as matching the timing and behaviour of their regular harassing calls. The contributor reported receiving up to 3 calls daily from similar numbers before implementing defensive measures.
A contributor noted that 07 2809 3557 was not initially flagged as spam despite being an interstate number with no legitimate reason to call them. This delay in spam detection is typical of newly active spoofed numbers, which are often reassigned landlines used for temporary scam campaigns. The fact that multiple people reported 0728093557 quickly enough to trigger system-wide spam warnings suggests coordinated or frequent calling patterns.
What to Do If You Receive a Call from 07 2809 3557
If 07 2809 3557 calls you:
- Do not: Return the call, especially if you did not initiate contact. Callback lures are designed to generate charges or confirm your number is active.
- Do not: Answer if you don't recognise the number. Let it ring out completely.
- Do: Let missed calls go to voicemail. If no message is left, the call is almost certainly a scam probe.
- Do: Block the number immediately after the first call. Ignoring without rejection (rather than using a rejection app that sends an Engaged tone) may reduce callback frequency, as it doesn't signal to automated systems that your number is monitored.
- Do: Report the number to your phone provider and to Scamwatch if it persists.

What Our Users Reviewed
Number called and didn't leave voicemail. Not a known number to me. Ignored it.
This number called earlier today, I let it ring out as it's a landline number from interstate calling in the afternoon and that's the pattern of the scam calls I get several times a week. Phone didn't flag it as spam at first but when I checked it a few hours later it is now labelled as spam with a big red warning. So other people have been reporting it.
I was using an app to block any number not in my contacts list and that works great ("Calls Blacklist Pro") but I found out a problem. When the call is blocked the caller gets an Engaged tone, and they take that to mean that someone is using the phone and the number is therefore "live". So I turned off the app and instead now I let them ring out and just ignore it, no message bank, don't reject the call, nothing. So their records show that there was no response. Sure enough, the calls suddenly dropped from up to 3 a day to once a week. It doesn't always work, it depends on what type of automation the scammers are using, but it's been working with the current guys trying to harass me.
I get scam calls from random interstate landline numbers most days, this one was not flagged as spam but there's no one in Qld that should be calling me.
Didn't answer but it's the type of number at about the usual time of day so I assume it's a spoofed number. According to this page it's a "spare" number so that seems likely.

WRITE A REVIEWFrequently Asked Questions
Why would a scammer call from 07 2809 3557 without leaving a voicemail?
Callback lure scams rely on you returning the call. Callers from 07 2809 3557 intentionally avoid voicemail so you're left guessing who called and curious enough to call back. Once you dial 0728093557, scammers may keep you on the line, charge you premium rates, or gather personal information. Contributors report this is a common pattern with spoofed interstate numbers.
Is 07 2809 3557 a real Queensland number?
07 2809 3557 is technically allocated to Symbio Networks as a Queensland local service number, but contributors report it as a spoofed or reassigned number used for scam calls. Real businesses and government agencies don't use callback lure tactics. If you have no legitimate contact with anyone in Queensland, this number is almost certainly spoofed.
Should I use a call-blocking app to stop 07 2809 3557?
One contributor discovered that call-blocking apps that send an Engaged tone back to callers can actually increase scam activity. When the line signals as 'engaged,' it tells automated systems that 0728093557 belongs to an active, monitored number. Instead, let the call ring out without answering or rejecting it. This signals no response to the scammer's system, reducing callback frequency.
Why does 07 2809 3557 keep calling multiple times a day?
Spoofed numbers like 0728093557 run automated dialling campaigns testing which numbers are active. Contributors report receiving 2-3 calls daily from similar interstate numbers before implementing non-response strategies. Each time you reject or answer, it confirms your number is active, triggering more calls. Letting calls ring out without engagement reduces callback attempts.
What happens if I accidentally call back 07 2809 3557?
Do not call back 0728093557. If you do, you may reach a scammer attempting to sell you services, verify your personal details, or transfer you to premium-rate numbers. Hang up immediately without providing any information. Block the number and report it to Scamwatch at scamwatch.gov.au.
Will reporting 07 2809 3557 stop the calls?
Reporting 0728093557 to ACMA, Scamwatch, and your phone provider helps get the number flagged in spam detection systems, protecting other Australians. However, scammers using spoofed numbers often cycle through different numbers. While reporting won't immediately stop calls to you, it accelerates system-wide blocking and helps authorities track scam patterns.
