Understanding the Threat from 07 2113 4397
If you've received a call from 07 2113 4397 / 0721134397, be forewarned: this number has been flagged by users as a scammer impersonating a bank's fraud or security department. Such impersonation scams are designed to deceive, aiming to illicitly gain access to your internet banking accounts.
How the Scam Operates
According to reports, individuals who fall victim to this scam typically receive a text message alerting them to an "attempted unauthorised transaction." This message may appear legitimate because it closely resembles genuine notifications from your bank. After this initial contact, the scammer follows up with a call from the same number.
During the conversation, the scammer is known to request access codes sent via text message, instructing victims to read these codes aloud. This clever tactic allows the caller to reset the victim's internet banking password, thus providing them direct access to the victim's finances.
Why Is This Type of Scam Dangerous?
- Legitimacy Loopholes: The scammer often sends codes from the same number as legitimate banking codes, causing confusion and instilling fake confidence in their victims.
- Privacy Invasion: Once they gain the codes, the scammers can effectively breach your banking privacy, leading to potential financial loss.

What Our Users Reviewed
This is a scammer pretending to be from a bank's fraud/security department (GMCU in my case). Their aim is to gain access to your internet banking to steal money. A text message is initially received saying that an attempted unauthorised transaction has been made. You are then phoned by the scammer. The scammer sends access codes via text message for you to read out; the code enables to the scammer to reset your internet banking password. The codes are sent from the same number as legitimate banking codes so are displayed in the "chain" of previously received genuine messages, including from codes to add your card to Google Wallet.
