    Had a missed call, returned call to find out they were some company offering discounted gas and electricity to the authorized person paying the power bill, red flags went up cos I've never had a bill connected to this number and ask for what address, they couldn't provide me with a street name or number, just said a residence in QLD which is nowhere near where I am. Asked them if they were a scammer and seemed like they didn't know how to answer. Then about 2 hours later I receive another call from same number but different person, again asked them if they were scammers cos I'd already told them I'd received a call earlier and said I had no power bills and asked why they were still calling me. Said I'd make an harassment complaint if they call again.

    I'm gonna go ahead and say they're scammers or just a shitty call centre who don't remove you from their call list until you abuse the hell outta them.

    Called but didn't leave a message. I called back and it was a company trying to get me to sign up for a lower gas and electricity bill. Clearly a call centre in India.

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
