The phone number 03 9968 5719 has recently garnered attention on Reverseau as a suspicious contact, with users reporting varied interactions that raise some red flags. While the callers claim to represent the Australian Electoral Commission, the lack of prior notifications and unsolicited contact makes the legitimacy of this number questionable.
In reviews dated 02/08/2024 and 22/08/2024, users detail conversations where a female caller identifies herself as being from the Australian Electoral Commission. One user felt hesitant, stating that while the caller seemed convincing, the possibility of a scam was never far from their mind. Another review reinforces this sentiment, casting doubt on how their personal information was accessed in the first place.
Considering the descriptions from both reviews, we classify 03 9968 5719 as a suspicious number. If a legitimate body were to contact you, especially related to sensitive matters like elections, you would typically receive prior communication notifying you of any such outreach. The absence of this common protocol, combined with the unexpected nature of the calls, leads to significant concerns about the authenticity of these interactions.
So how should you handle calls from this number? Here are a few tips:
- Do not provide personal information: If you receive a call from this number, it’s best to refrain from divulging any personal or financial details.
- Verify the caller: Make it a practice to independently verify any claims made by the caller. Contact official numbers of the Australian Electoral Commission to confirm if they are indeed making outreach calls.
- Report suspicious activity: If you suspect that the call is part of a scam, consider reporting it to the relevant authorities so they can investigate further.

This call appears to be legitimate. They may be reaching out to individuals who have previously worked in an election or submitted an expression of interest (EOI) to work. They seemed to be urgently looking for staff as they were short-handed during the last election.
Lady called saying she was following up a email for registering with the Australian Electoral Commission, to help on the Polls. Great but this is a new number so how did they get my number.
The caller stated she was following up on an email regarding updates to the registry for working at Polling booths. This raises concern as to how she obtained my number, and I wonder if they plan on reaching out to hundreds or thousands of people.
A lady called and asked to speak with David. She mentioned she is from Australian Commission. Sounds convincing but I think it is a scam.
