Classification: Scam Call

Based on user reports, we can categorically classify 03 9871 7482 / 0398717482 as a scam call. The calls appear to follow a similar template: callers claim to be from either Visa, Mastercard, or Commonwealth Bank, often attempting to elicit sensitive information from unsuspecting victims. The typical scenario involves the caller suggesting that the recipient has made a dubious transaction, causing alarm and prompting quick action. This is a common tactic used by scammers to fish for personal banking details or to successfully trick victims into revealing their login credentials.

Here are outlined elements that contribute to this classification:

  • Impersonation of Trusted Entities: Callers have claimed to represent reputable banks and financial institutions, seeking to gain the victim's trust.
  • Requests for Sensitive Information: Users reported being asked for specific details like card PIN or bank information, which banks will never solicit over the phone.
  • Inconsistent Communication: Many victims experienced hang-ups or could not connect back to the number, which raises doubts about its legitimacy.
  • Multiple Reports of Spam: The sheer volume of negative feedback supports the notion of a coordinated scam effort.

Around 4 pm today, my husband received a call from this number saying they represented the Commonwealth Bank and asked him if he had made an overseas transaction recently as they could see activity on his account for A$400. When He said he would check with his wife and he called me, they had already hung up by the time he got back to them.

My husband was still thinking it was the Commonwealth Bank calling and so he called them back.

However there was no answer and only a voice message saying "this message bank is full"

After reading the other reviews we are confident now that this was most definitely a Hoax Call.

This is a sophisticated scamming agency (03 9994 0179) who attempted hack my bank account with malware and managed to send real netbank codes to my phone (commonwealth bank), which the bank does do, but then they asked for my card pin number which I new the bank would never do. I immediately called the bank and everything had been compromised and now everything is frozen. Associated numbers are 03 9871 7482,0371 7484.

I received a call from this number claiming to represent both Visa and Mastercard. They stated that I had transferred $800 to New Zealand, which seemed suspicious to me.
