I ignored this call from a number that appears to be from Ringwood, Victoria. It was suspiciously preceded by a call from another dubious number in Perth, Western Australia: (08) 6383 6728. I had also ignored that call.
The caller claimed that someone was hacking my internet and asked me to log in so they could fix the problem. I became suspicious and informed him that I checked his number and found out it was recognized as a scam before he abruptly hung up.
Dirty stinking scammers!
I got the same message on the home phone.
Called twice, I left it the first time and answered the second. Indian accent, said he was calling from Telstra. I’m not a Telstra customer so I hung up.
SCAM.
Recorded message: checking a VISA payment, press 1, press 2 etc.
Had call from a Ringwood number who knew my name and email. Said they were Telstra and I’d been a loyal customer, paid all my bills in time.
Told me she was offering 50% discount over next 6 months.
Despite a very heavy Indian accent and background call centre type noise, told me her name was Jenny Gray. She spelt it using radio alphabet.
Told me her Telstra ID number. D249801.
I asked how do I know she was genuine? She said she’d pass me to her supervisor.
A man got in.. didn’t catch his name but clearly gave me a Telstra ID number. D125004.
Said he’d apply the discount. He sent me an email with a secure code.. To access account.
Email from Telstra arrived… very genuine looking. It was the “ forgotten your Telstra ID password” page.
Sender ID also genuine looking.
Told me to click the purple bar and put in a new “ secure code” which he gave me, asked me to write it down.
I wrote it down, then hung up.
I was immediately called back by a mobile number. He said “ what happened the call was interrupted?”
I said I did not know. He then urged me to put the new secure password into my “ change my password” link. I hung up.
Tried to call Telstra to verify …. No I don’t think they are giving me a discount. It was a very good scam I believe, …
Suspected scam!
Another scam call no message left.
Call from a foreign sounding female who claimed to be from Telstra saying my IP address had been compromised. Hung up when I told her it was a company telephone.
0398717431 - missed a call, returned the call, went to message, mailbox was full. scammer!!
Male voice, no accent. Said from the government wanting to check up on a bank transfer for $1700. When gave phone to someone else in the house, the scammer hung up.
Suspected SCAM - Indian male (0398717431 & 0483911126)- He knew my first and surname, had my email and my mobile #. He said he was from Telstra and was offering a 50% bill discount promotion but asked me first how my service was going - any problems. I told him it was all good - no problems. He said he would send a code to my phone that I would need to read back to him. I started to read the code and realised it was from Microsoft. I hung up. He then attempted to call me back twice. I realised he may have been attempting to reset my Microsoft email, so I reset it again myself (getting another code messaged to myself) and changed my password. He then called again and I answered, I told him I thought he was a scam. He then provided my apparent acount # (I have no idea what this is) and the amount of a recent bill (but he didn't seem to know it changed 2 months ago). I told him that was my old bill amount and that it had changed recently. I asked him for my last receipt # (all I could find) and he diverted to asking for my Date of Birth, in order to continue. I politely told him I didn't want to continue, that I didn't need the discount and thanks for his time. He sounded disappointed and I ended the call. He hasn't attempted to call again. If it was legit I feel bad, but best to err on the side of caution.
Asking for details about a payment being authorised to NZ for $1700. I said you sound pretty scammy. They said "we're not asking you for any information on this recorded line". I then asked what the purpose of the call was and they hung up.
I received a scam call from this number today. When I picked up the caller didn't talk. I hung up. Blocked the number.
I got a call from someone with an accent claiming to be from Telstra. They stated they were sending a verification code via SMS to reset my email. They became frustrated when I provided a different email address.
The caller claimed I had won something valued at A$500 from eBay. After I refused to engage, they hung up immediately.
I received a recorded call claiming to be from Visa, asking me to confirm a recent purchase. Since I have never had a bank call me for such information, I suspect this is a scam. The frequency of such scams seems to be increasing.
I want to clarify that companies like the NBN will never make unsolicited calls to customers.
A male caller with an Indian accent called me, claiming he needed to update the NBN for free and asked for my details. This is clearly a scam attempt.
