AGL Impersonation Reports for 03 9649 4930

Six contributors have reported activity from 03 9649 4930 (also written as 0396494930), with the majority flagging impersonation of AGL's complaints and sales departments. Two reports specifically mention callers claiming to represent AGL while offering energy deals, NBN plans, or mobile services exclusively to AGL customers. The impersonation tactic appears deliberate, with one contributor noting the caller cited a legitimate AGL complaints phone number (1800 775 329) to establish credibility before pivoting to upsell offers.

One contributor with an actual escalated complaint at AGL received a voicemail from 0396494930 claiming to be from the AGL complaints department. After cross-referencing with other reports about this number, the contributor concluded that scammers had likely spoofed AGL's identity to target people with existing complaints. This method exploits vulnerability, targeting customers already frustrated with AGL's service.

Notably, one report confirms 03 9649 4930 was legitimate AGL complaints resolution contact, suggesting the number may have been reassigned or the contributor's account details were already known to AGL at that time. However, the predominant pattern across five other reports involves false impersonation with persistent sales tactics.

What Callers from 03 9649 4930 Claim

Contributors describe callers from 03 9649 4930 making several false claims. One caller offered an exclusive NBN and mobile plan package purportedly available only to existing AGL customers. When questioned why the plan could not be accessed through the official AGL app, the caller made excuses and avoided direct answers, a common deflection tactic in scam calls.

Another report describes a call offering a great deal on internet and power bills without specifying the actual plan details or pricing. One contributor received a voicemail from someone claiming to represent AGL's complaints department, citing the legitimate 1800 775 329 number to establish false legitimacy before attempting to pitch services.

The persistence of calls from 03 9649 4930 is notable. One contributor made a formal complaint with AGL and explicitly requested an email response, yet the number 0396494930 called instead. This disregard for stated communication preferences aligns with telemarketing and scam patterns rather than legitimate customer service.

Call Patterns and Timing

Reports span from November 2023 to October 2025, indicating prolonged activity from this number. The breakdown shows two voicemails (including one silent call), three answered calls, and one legitimate interaction. The presence of both voicemail and call-answered reports suggests the caller is willing to leave messages and persist when someone answers.

One report mentions receiving a call from 03 9649 4930 and a separate Brisbane number with the same person, indicating either call forwarding or multiple spoofed numbers used by the same operator. This multi-number approach is typical of organised scam operations attempting to evade blocking. The calls occurred at various times, with one recorded at 01:53:50 and another at 03:42:31, suggesting no particular time-of-day pattern.

A caller who left a message saying AGL complaints department giving the 1800775329 which I deem to be legit as I have an unresolved complaint that has escalated.

After reading the other reviews I know that AGL use offshore call centres and scammers have probably spoofed this phone number and try to scam people with false deals. As all are correct why can't they just go to AGL's site and get the data power gas deals.

So persistant calling should be regarded as tele marketing or scam callers as it is a fact that AGL barely lift a finger when you have complaints and a onetime call is about all you get.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 03 9649 4930 a real AGL number?

Not reliably. While one contributor confirmed 03 9649 4930 was legitimate AGL complaints resolution at the time they called, five other reports describe clear impersonation. Scammers frequently spoof or exploit legitimate-looking numbers. If you have an AGL account or active complaint, verify any call by hanging up and calling the number on your latest bill or agl.com.au directly. Do not use a number the caller provides.

What should I do if 0396494930 calls me about my AGL complaint?

Do not engage. If you have a genuine escalated complaint with AGL, contact them directly using the number on your bill or their website rather than accepting an inbound call from 0396494930. Legitimate AGL complaints teams will not make unsolicited calls; they will respond via email or contact details you provide. Scammers often target people with known complaints because they know you are frustrated and more likely to listen.

Why does the caller claim I can only access this NBN plan through them, not the AGL app?

This is a red flag for impersonation or scam. Contributors who received offers from 03 9649 4930 about exclusive NBN and mobile plans found the caller could not explain why these plans were unavailable through official AGL channels. Legitimate service providers always allow customers to enrol and manage services via their official app or website. If a caller insists you can only sign up through them, they are likely not representing that company.

I received a silent voicemail from 03 9649 4930. Should I be concerned?

Yes. One contributor reported a silent voicemail from 0396494930, and another received a similar silent call. Silent or near-silent calls are commonly used by scam operations to test whether a number is active. After a silent call, you may receive a follow-up call with a scripted pitch. Block 03 9649 4930 to prevent further contact.

The caller from 03 9649 4930 mentioned the official AGL complaints number. Does that make them legitimate?

No. One contributor specifically noted that the caller cited 1800 775 329 (a real AGL number) to create false credibility before attempting to sell services. Scammers frequently reference legitimate company details to seem authentic. This tactic is designed to lower your guard. Legitimate companies do not need to cite their own numbers to callers who already have accounts with them; they use their own direct lines.

Should I callback 0396494930 if I missed the call?

No. Do not call back 03 9649 4930. Scammers may use this number as a spoofed caller ID, meaning the actual caller is operating from a different location and the number has been cloned. If you need to reach AGL, use the contact details on your bill or visit agl.com.au. Any legitimate contact from AGL will provide you with a way to verify their identity before discussing your account.
