    Claim to be AGL. Can’t speak English, I didn’t understand a word they said. Delay on pickup Without a doubt a scammer, and also quite incompetent at scamming.

    They should leave a voice message when not answered. But since they did not, I assume it's a scammer.

    Called to sell AGL National Broadband Network and mobile plans. Was so persistent even though I proved to him that I'm on a better plan. In the end I told him I'll call him in a month's time when my current plan expires. And he seemed very disappointed and called me a LIAR under his breath. It was very annoying. But I also feel sorry for these guys whose job day in day out is to call people.

    AGL sales.

    Selling National Broadband Network and mobile plans.

    Called me 4 times in one day.

    First call I said no thank you.

    Second call was asking if I had thought about what they said on the previous call, again said no thank you.

    Third call tried to sell me National Broadband Network again.

    Fourth call was asking if I had considered what they tried selling in previous 3 phone calls.

    Bit annoying.

    I called AGL from their number I got off Google and was put through to customer resolutions. He found a note from a few days ago (they possibly called me then) regarding National Broadband Network. He said it is a legit number so not to worry The number that called me was (03) 9649 4842 All good guys ?

    NOT a SCAM. Its AGL marketing/ sales team wanting to introduce you to their new phone & NBA deals. I got them to email me the deals that was on offer and when I logged into my AGL account, it was prompting what she was selling to me over the phone. I contacted AGL myself and asked & confirmed the phone number that called me.

    I am an AGL customer for my gas and electricity and when I am late paying my bill I start getting calls from this number.

    I am pretty sure it is a legit AGL call centre, or at least a contracted call centre, but I still don't answer the calls cause they always try to up-sell other services. They must receive some commission $$ for every up-sell..

    Has AGL sold phone numbers? I have stopped answering calls from unknown numbers and who don't leave a message. I've had two calls from this number who did go to messages, but the callers did not identify themselves. Assuming spam or scam. (This is why we can't have nice things.)

    Delay in answering when I picked up - wouldn't have had it not been a logical looking Melb number. As soon as there's a delay I hang up and block. I don't care who it is - our network doesn't lag like that if local.

    AGL sales - this is legitimate, not a scam. AGL have bought into internet/phone services. They are trying to get people to buy in. Just say no if you don't want it.

    Just got a call from (03) 9649 4842! This was on Mobile phone! No message nor spoken "AI" or "HUMAN"

    Voice "Recognition"? (number gave Australia prefix > +61 3 9649 4842? Nearly tempted to "PICK UP"

    But chose to "Wait"! Suggestion claim, s report, s possibly this "Credible" number being somewhat seconded for use as a "SCAMMER"! (Would it be TELSTRA connected theoretically?)

    Telephone scammers try to steal your money or personal information. Scams may come through phone calls from real people, robocalls, or text messages.

    Call or message may be a scam if:

    • You're asked for personal information or money;
    • Text messages tell you to urgently click a link or call a number;
    • The call or text pretends to be from someone you trust like your phone company or bank;
    • You're being threatened or made to feel scared;
    • The caller wants to access and control your computer.

    To protect yourself:

    • Don't answer if you don't know who it is. Let the call go to voicemail.
    • If a caller leaves a message claiming to be from known organisation, cross check the number the call came from against the organisation's official website.
    • Never share any personal information about yourself or your bank details.
    • Don't click on any links. Never let a stranger take control of your computer.
    • Do not send any money.
    • Block calls on your mobile phone. Your phone company can tell you how to block calls to your home phone.
